BEAUTIFUL Minds Bankstown is using this Sunday’s Picnic In Your Socks to raise money for Banks House, the mental health unit of Bankstown Hospital.
Picnic In Your socks will be hosted by Padstow Bowling Club from 11am to 3pm. It will include free lawn bowls and tuition, stalls, sausage sizzle, live music and a creative doodling area. Beautiful Minds president Kathryn Bain said it wanted to refurbish the outdoor courtyard area where patients and family could enjoy a happy space.
The $80,000 refurbishment will also provide staff an area to run more outdoor workshops, as well as give patients a place to hang out with each other and be alone.
“The mental health unit of Bankstown Hospital has been fairly untouched since it was built in 1978, so with Beautiful Minds Bankstown fundraising assistance we can give them an upgraded environment, conducive to mental health and well being rehabilitation,” Ms Bain said.
“Through workshops including yoga, reiki, storytelling, art, music, and upgrades already offered by Beautiful Minds Macarthur to Campbelltown mental health units, it has been able to show that these holistic and non-medical wellbeing offers have helped improve the way patients in hospital feel, giving them a better chance of rehabilitation and re-entry into the day to day.”
”Cr Steve Tuntaveski has been most helpful in getting Beautiful Minds known to our local council (which donated $2000).”
